Blizzard Mobile Authenticator - My Phone Not Supported

Postby Jackal » 26 Feb 2010 15:21

Important Info:
This topic will explain how to get the Mobile Authenticator onto and working on your java capable phone if the model is not listed. The article author takes no responsibility for any problems you may encounter following this guide.

What you will need

  • A java capable phone (one that can install .jar and .jad files. This is most phones which have applications ;) )
  • Firefox web browser
  • Paypal account
  • A method for transferring files into your phone from your computer (cable, memory card etc..etc..)

What to do.

  • Open your web browser (might as well make it FireFox as its needed later) and browse to
    Code: Select all
    http://mobile.blizzard.com/shared/blizzard_download.php?cont=401&id=2183&title=Battlenet-Mobile-Authenticator&country=uk&lang=en
  • On the window that opens you should see 4 drop down menus
    • Country/location
    • Mobile brand
    • Mobile model
    • Mobile operator
Obviously you select your country in the first one, in the second you select Motorola, in the third you select V3i, and in the fourth you select your mobile operator. Then click continue.
  • At the bottom of the next window you will see a location where to enter your mobile number, do so and then go. You will then be asked to pay via paypal which will involve logging into paypal when requested to pay the 50 pence charge. After completing the paypal transaction you will be taken to a confirmation page which says (the link in the message will be different for you)
    Thank you for your purchase!

If you did not receive a text message, please enter the following address in your cell phone internet browser.

    http://wap.bizmobil.com/download/sxxxxxx/index.wml

The content will be available for download for two hours after your purchase it, and can only be downloaded once. After that, the content is no longer available to download without repurchasing it.

Still doesn't work? Click here to contact our customer support.
It is important here that if you receive a text message you ignore it. it is not the text message or its contained data we want, but the link shown in the confirmation message, so please copy it down somewhere as we will need it shortly :)
  • Now we need to prepare Firefox, you will need to install two add-ons. You will need to install Refcontrol and wmlbrowser.
  • Once these are installed you will need to create a spoof browser user agent so the site will let you access the Authenticator files (in short we need to con the download page into thinking you are browsing on a specific phone). This can be done in the tools menu in Firefox under the RefControls option. Once you have created the spoof user agent please select it so the browser will be sending that agent to any websites you visit.
  • Now using your Firefox browser with the spoof user agent visit the link from earlier, the one you got in the payment confirmation message and if you followed my instructions the one you noted down :) This will open a mobile web page which is why you needed to install the wmlbrowser Firefox addon. On this page you will see
    JAVA GAME

Click on the link below :

    Battle-net-Mobile-Authenticator
The words "Battle-net-Mobile-Authenticator" are a link to a .jad file. Please click the link and download the .jad file to your computer. Now right click the link and select 'properties' so you can see the links target address, copy this and paste it into your web browsers address bar. Before submitting to visit the location change the .jad at the end of the URL to .jar. Go to the location, this will then download the .jar file to go with the.jad file you have already download.
  • Connect your phone to your computer using what ever method you have for doing this. Then upload both the .jad and .jar files to a location (any folder should do) on your phone. It is important to make sure that you upload both files into the same location.
  • Using your phones file browser you will need to browse to the location where the two files are. Select the .jad file, once you have done this depending on the phone model you are using you will either be asked if you want to install the application or you may need to select options for the file and then install. This bit is the grey area as every phone will handle this bit slightly differently. On my phone simply selecting the file gave me a pop-up option to install the java application.
  • Once installed you should be able to start the Authenticator the same as you would any other application on your phone. Once started you will need to select the set-up option in the application. This will give you two codes, the first one is the applications serial number, this you need to write down and keep some where safe...always, the other will be a random code like the ones generated by authenticator to authenticate your account. You will need to enter both these when binding the Authenticator to your battlenet account. This is done by logging into your battlenet account and going to the security location and following the instructions.

Important Info:

Some important notes relating to the whole process

  • Once bound to your account you will need to enter the validation code it generates every time you log into your game and every time you log into your battlenet account on-line, thus losing or un-installing the application without first removing it from your battlenet account will result in a complete account lock-up and a lengthy call to blizzard customer services :)
  • Each validation code generated only has a two minute window to be entered and submitted during login before a new one is created and the last one is invalid.
  • When you have finished using the application remember to click exit to close it, leaving it open and letting phone go into standby will likely result in a phone crash (happened to me and had to pop battery to get phone started again)
  • Please remember to change the Firefox browsers user agent back to the default otherwise you will find a lot of sites serving up their content in wap format ;)
  • If after entering your user-name and password and authentication code during the game login you find you can not login, be sure you re-sync the application on your phone using the option in the application to do so. This requires the phone to connect briefly to the internet.
